Learning Areas
The Six Learning Areas
Physical Development
This area of learning involves co-ordination, control, manipulation and movement and enables children to develop their self esteem and become confident about what they can do. The children also gain an awareness of the benefits of being healthy and active and those things which contribute to this and the changes which occur in their bodies after exercise.
Children will be offered various activities to develop their skills in movement, encouraging them to move with control, confidence, imagination, co-ordination and in safety. They will use climbing and balancing apparatus and travel in a variety of ways (under, over, through, around etc).
They will develop special awareness and use a wide range of small and large equipment, using various tools for a variety of purposes with control, co-ordination and in safety, developing their hand/eye control.
We will help the children to understand the importance of keeping healthy and to develop bodily awareness. Our children will taste various healthy foods, experiment with exercise and discover the effect that exercise has on their body. Gain an awareness of the importance of hygiene and gain increasing independence in seeing to their own personal needs.
